THIS IS KASHMIR DVD OUT NOW
In 2009 the New Zealand Ski Club of Kashmir put the call out for ski and snowboard instructors to volunteer for a once in a lifetime opportunity; to travel to Gulmarg, India in the disputed region of Kashmir and teach local kids how to ski.
Gulmarg, the location of the world’s highest Gondola, attracts adventure skiers from around the world to sample backcountry skiing on a Himalayan scale. 8 instructors from Australia, New Zealand, UK, Argentina and France answered the call of the ski club and came to Gulmarg for 2 months of teaching and skiing. This is their story.
The film has been submitted to a number of adventure film festivals in the short film category, hopefully it makes a final cut somewhere and gets a public screening. I’ll hopefully have some future posts as to where it has been shown. Fingers crossed.
Music has been composed and recorded by Tony Goring of Flutter Tongue Music, it was a great collaborating with Tony on this project and to have a finished product that sounds as good as it does is a real testament to Tony’s talent. I’d also like to take the opportunity to thank the New Zealand Ski Club of Kashmir and the 7 other volunteer instructors Amandine Revel, Jennifer Haggart, Jordan Daley, Henry Cobb, Jeff Hodge, Guido Carminatti and Marius Lina. Without their dedication and hard work the free learn to ski program in Gulmarg would never have got off the ground.
